I’m saying this right up front. THIS IS A CHAIN. If you read my blog on a regular basis you know how I feel about chains, but I was taken to Willie’s Grill & Ice House Restaurant by two associates.
OK, now that my disclaimer is out there, let’s talk about my Chicken Fried Steak. So here’s the recipe. As you can see by the photo, it’s extremely large but very thin (way too large for the plate). Even though the breading is minimal, it’s there and nicely seasoned and crunchy. Surprisingly enough, it had some juice to it and it was tender. There was no grease factor. I asked what meat they use and I was told it was a cubed steak.
They couldn’t tell me where on the animal it came from, so we’ll go with it being cubed. The price was $9.65 and you get seasoned fries and a fresh salad (I had blue cheese dressing). Both were very good. The white gravy was thick and peppery, just the way it should be.
Who is that mapped man? It’s the Texas Travelin’ Man.
