It’s finally here – the big weekend when all things Halloween are celebrated. Almost everyone I know will be doing some fun, but predictable, activities: going to haunted houses, carving pumpkins, dressing up for costume parties or taking the little ones trick-or-treating.
But what if you want to do something a bit more unique, something not everyone will be doing, something involving zombies? I have two ideas for you.
1. “Thrill the World” Global Dance – Thirty four years ago, Michael Jackson released the song “Thriller”, which became a blockbuster around the world. The dance steps in the music video have become iconic and well known to millions. On October 29th, the “Thrill the World” event begins as dancers across the USA and in many other countries turn into dancing zombies and perform the Thriller dance. This is truly a global event because it will begin at exactly the same time around the world – the same version of the song, the same dance steps, all synchronized to a live broadcast. Want to join them? Well, you’ll have to be a quick study because there are a lot of moves to learn (watch the videos on the official “Thrill The World” website.) But you can also just go and watch. And why not just dress like a zombie anyway? The website lists several locations in Texas but I can only confirm the Houston location and the Austin one.
2. San Antonio Zombie Walk – On October 30th, hundreds of zombies will descend on the Tower of the Americas – and you can be one of them! Put on your best, distressed clothing and maybe a bit of fake blood for good measure and practice your grunting. The “undead” will begin gathering at 4 pm, where live music, food and drink will start the party atmosphere. When the sun goes down, the zombies will begin their slow-shuffle towards the Alamo, in search of brains and good fun!
Tickets start at $5.00 for event entry. Upgrade to $20 for an event T-shirt or $30 for access to the VIP afterparty. Buy tickets here. View Facebook page.
Wishing you all a very happy Halloween!
