Most people love New Year’s Eve, and why not? It’s a great time to attend lively parties and other fun social gatherings, to join hordes of revelers at exciting public events, or to get together with loved ones for a quiet evening at home reflecting on the events of the past year and anticipating fresh starts in the new. But no matter how you prefer to celebrate New Year’s Eve, I can’t think of a better place to be than in Dallas!
If you’re really into the party scene, then your destination should be the Dallas Market Hall at the Dallas Market Center on Stemmons Freeway, because that’s where you’ll get to experience Lights All Night, their annual two-night New Year’s Eve bash. Lights All Night is one of the top EDM festivals in Texas, and this year hosts some of the biggest, cutting-edge performers in the industry. (EDM stands for electronic dance music usually played by DJs who seamlessly transition from one dance music track to another.) Accompanying the exhilarating music will be some of the most incredible laser and lighting effects you’ll see anywhere in the country, all promising to make this an unforgettable way to bring in the New Year! (Lights All Night runs Friday, December 30th – Saturday, December 31st from 6PM to 2AM.) Buy tickets for both nights or only New Years Eve here.
Of course, Dallas being Dallas, there will be many other types of parties and events all across the city, including the spectacular New Year’s Eve Streaming Lights Show at the Reunion Tower at 300 Reunion Blvd East. This dazzling fireworks display gets underway just before midnight on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, and will feature over 4,000 pyrotechnic special effects. For ideas on the best places to view this illuminating event, visit the Reunion Tower website.
If you’re a sci-fi and comic book fan, then let’s face it…you’re probably a geek! Well, Dallas has got you covered, because at the Sheraton Dallas on 400 Olive Street, the Geek Expo will be presenting their Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve Party. The festivities run from December 29th – January 1st, and include events, photo ops, after parties, and the chance to meet and greet some of the stars of Animaniacs, Clerks, The 100, and Star Trek. (To all of my Trekkie friends out there, this will be your last chance to celebrate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary.) You’ll also get the opportunity to meet the great Stan Lee…and if you don’t know who he is, then you’re not geek enough for this event!
As for my wife and me, our tradition is to splurge on a great meal, and since we’ll be in Dallas this year, a city renowned for its eclectic cuisine, we know we’ll have no problem keeping that tradition alive!
I want to wish you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
